Performers

Wednesday, 5 August

Rachel Gittus

This year Rachel will be playing alone, giving us some of her exquisitely moving and beautifully crafted songs, in the cafe on Wednesday evening : a perfect way to start camp! She will be followed by

Paul MitchellPaul Mitchell

Previous Spear of Lugh winner, Paul will be offering some old stuff and some new stuff from his satirical pagan folk music set. A driving 12 string guitar crashes out almost 4 whole chords whilst Paul shouts at the audience, singing songs based on the pagan "community". The more you drink, the better he sounds! May contain swearing. May offend. May fall off stage.

Also on Wednesday, Paul will be playing with his beautiful wife Claire, offering some easy going folk to help you settle into the evening. Claire sings with Paul Sartin's community choir. In Hampshire, as well as with the earthy folk band Mad Magdalen. Together Claire and Paul have performed at folk club sing arounds and events across Hampshire, as well as around several camp fires over the years.

Monika Stadler
Monika Stadler

Harpist and composer, Monika Stadler is one of the most creative, individual and enigmatic solo harpists in Europe today. Her music is very personal expression of her soul, spirituality and womanhood, combining classical, jazz, world and improvised music in her unique style. It is her constant goal to expand the techniques of harp playing as well as to plumb the depths of the soul.

In her own ingenious way, Monika Stadler combines the highest musical aspirations with technical brilliance. Monika will play a selection of compositions taken from her CDs Between Earth, Sea & Sky, My imaginary garden and Song for the Earth.

Jim FaupelJim Faupel

It's great to have Jim playing for us again at Camp. He is an uncompromising artist, his powerful, biting, sometimes melancholic sounds are always worth diving into. He has three albums, Sail On and Khnosti with his band Sanctuary Rig, his first solo album Here Be Dragons now a Pagan standard. He'll be launching his second solo album, Reinventing The Wheel, at the Druid Camp.

Chris Wood

Chris Wood

Singer of the Year and Best Album BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009

Chris Wood is an uncompromising writer whose music reveals his love for the un-official history of the English speaking people. With gentle intelligence he weaves the tradition with his own contemporary parables. His writing has been said to share the same timeless quality as Richard Thompson at his best.

Chris’s latest projects include the new album, Trespasser, which has been widely critically acclaimed and nominated for the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He is also part of Simon Emmerson’s project, ‘The Imagined Village’ which won a 2008 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for ‘Best Track’ for Cold Hailey Rainy Night. The project also features artists such as Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Johnny Kalsi and Benjamin Zephaniah. The Irish Times heralded Chris Wood as "the renaissance man of English folk" when on his own R.U.F Records label he released The Lark Descending which included the BBC Folk Award winning song One In A Million in 2005.
